Explore the next generation of publishing and bookselling at simultaneous, interactive and informative site visits to Northshire Bookstore (4869 Main Street, Manchester Center, VT  05255) and Harvard Bookstore (1256 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA, 02138), on June 4, from 11:30 to 3 PM.

Both bookstores own and use the Espresso Book Machine, a revolutionary, print-on-demand book machine that has the physical footprint of a large Xerox machine but is making a gigantic impression on our industry! The machine can manufacture a book in minutes, from initial download of PDF to perfect-bound paperback, turning the traditional supply chain on its head.

Both bookstores will demo their machine to IPNE members at 11:30 AM on June 4, using book files from a selected IPNE member. Afterwards, during lunch at a nearby restaurant (12:30-2, pay your own way) , we will discuss issues this technology introduces to our industry: When does a bookseller become a publisher? Who is using the Espresso machine -- Googlebook readers, self or traditional publishers? What innovations are happening  – such as the new Chelsea Green collaborative bookshelf at Northshire?

At 2 PM we will reconvene in the two bookstores for a conference call or SKYPE session between the two IPNE groups and bookstore management at the two bookstores to discuss what we’ve learned, and new possibilities for cooperating with these  innovative bookstores.

This site visit is free to IPNE members, but space is limited.

If you're not an official paid IPNE member, join by going to: http://www.ipne.org/Benefits .
