President - Pamela J. Fenner


Pam is celebrating her 21st year as an independent publisher, Michaelmas Press. Publishing award-winning books in parenting and education, several focus on Waldorf education. She branched out into history in 2007 with a book about John Greenleaf Whittier, the Quaker, poet, and ardent abolitionist. 

Pam was elected President of the Board of Directors, following a year as Co-President with Tordis Isselhardt in 2011. Both were founding members of IPNE in 2000 and members of its predecessor, NEPA. From 1987 to 1993 Pam had been a member of the Marin Small Publishers Association, now called the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association, BAIPA, also an affiliate of IBPA.

Treasurer - Tordis Ilg Isselhardt

Tordis has been publishing as Images from the Past since 1994. Always based on solid scholarship, Images from the Past books cast familiar topics in a new light, and support cultural heritage tourism with ample historical and geographical context.

Numerous awards attest to the success of her team process for each book.

  • From 1968-77, Tordis was the Executive Director of the (1865) Victorian Park-McCullough House in North Bennington, Vermont.
  • She is active in support of historic and scenic preservation, historical interpretation, and independent publishing, and is treasurer of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bennington.

Secretary - Richard LaPorta


Richard is the Publisher for Husky Trail Press LLC, which publishes and distributes high quality educational books and materials. HTP also presents education seminars. A member of both IPNE and the Connecticut IBPA affiliate, CAPA, Richard may be contacted at info@huskytrailpress.com.


Kathy Brodsky


Kathy is a clinical social worker, poet and author who has self-published several books.  She writes in a number of genres including children's, poetry, and women's issues. She started writing in 2001. Because of her therapy background, Kathy’s books contain many issues we can all relate to – life and life lessons. 

Her children's picture books contain questions that pertain to the topics of each book. They include: diversity friendship, loyalty, social action, conservation, recycling, change, mail, dogs, cats, etc. For further information please visit her website www.kathybrodsky.com.

Steve Carlson


For over 25 years, Steve has operated a small traditional book publishing company, Upper Access, Inc., founded with his wife, Lisa, in Hinesburg, VT. Upper Access remains small by design, as Steve prefers to publish only books that he can give his full attention to, In a typical year, he publishes between one and three new titles.

He also publishes business software for fellow book publishers--Publishers' Assistant. Prior to entering the publishing field, Steve held a variety of positions including congressional staffer, magazine editor, and newspaper reporter.

He has served on the Board of IBPA, IPNE's parent organization.

Executive Director - Dan Nigloschy 


Dan is co-founder and CEO of Media Entities, providing eBooks, digital media and xml solutions for pbulishers since 2002. Previously he worked with Dupont, heading the European newspaper systems team out of London, paris, and Frankfurt. He is a frequent conference speaker on ePublishing.
